Guns and Ammo

Weapons for Home Defense

Note… Doc is a former Active-Duty Marine 5811 / 5812. (Military police / k9). During this period, he was assigned to the CID (criminal investigative division) focused on drug work and EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) training. He also worked special plain clothes VIP protection for high-ranking officers and officials. Everyone has (their own) recommendations and personal preferences; these are his thoughts.

First… handguns.

Doc believes that all the handguns in your home should be the SAME caliber. If needed, magazines and ammo can be shared with everyone and it’s much easier to store ONE type of handgun ammo in bulk.  9mm is his top pick because of availability and variety of rounds. Guns not worn daily or kept at home SHOULD NOT have a round in the chamber. This prevents children and others from accidental discharge. The majority people do not know how to chamber a round. If you have children in the home, use a QUICK LOCK / OPEN gun safe or at least keep magazines separate from guns.

Rifles…

Doc prefers some type of AR base gun because they can be used for both hunting and personal protection. Rounds are cheap, easily bought in bulk, and a 1-4 or 1-6 power scope will serve well for both hunting and protection.

Recently he has bought from the USA based Palmetto Armory. Their guns are tested all over YouTube and the prices are fantastic. Roughly $390 for a 9mm and AR based rifles for around $600.  These can “ordered” online, but will need to be shipped to a local FFL dealer for pickup. It is against the law to sell guns online directly.
