The concentrate uses sodium chlorite (NaClO₂) as its active ingredient, which generates a low level of chlorine dioxide (ClO₂) when added to water. Chlorine dioxide is a powerful, EPA-registered disinfectant that works through oxidation: it penetrates the cell walls of microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, and some protozoa) and disrupts their metabolic processes, effectively killing them without leaving harmful byproducts like those from chlorine or iodine treatments.

Restoring Dissolved Oxygen: Over time, stored water can become “flat” due to a loss of dissolved oxygen, especially if it’s sealed in a container with little air exposure. Aeration (e.g., pouring water between containers or using an aerator) reintroduces oxygen, which can improve taste and smell. Oxygen interacts with water molecules, giving it a crisper, fresher taste that humans often prefer.
